The final push to the summit is rewarded by a majestic view to the south and after climbing the fire tower 360 degrees.
There are views towards the High Peaks and Lake Champlain from the summit.DEC sign along US 9, well worn path marked with blue markers.There are also massive rock ledges that are reminiscent of something you'd see on the old trail, without all the work.The new trail is easy to navigate without large rocks or ruts, and there are a variety of things to see that are not offered on the old trail.Before, hikers only had one option, a strenuous uphill trail that rises 1,280 feet.2 miles.Lake Champlain in the Fall, ice buildup on the tower from low clouds.To the west Giant and Whiteface are the most prominent High Peaks, with many others visible too.Parking for this trail is just short of 1-mile south of the campground/Rangers Trail on Route.There is a large parking area marked with a DEC sign.If it is exceptionally clear, views to Montreal and its surrounding hills are possible. .To the east, Lake Champlain can be seen with the Green Mountains off in the distance.There are no other designated camping spots along the trail and given the steepness of the terrain there are few spots that make good legal site 150 feet from trail/water.From the fire tower there are views towards the northern part of Lake Champlain and Plattsburgh.View towards Lake Champlain with Sailboats.The eastern side of the summit contains additional, quieter overlooks with gorgeous views of Lake Champlain and Vermont.
